This section contains the authors' Acknowledgements to those who have assisted in the preparation of this site.

It also includes details of some of the families that have been associated with Fox Corner over a few generations.  The families are (click on them to see the content):

  • The Bailey Family.  Associated primarily with Heath Mill, the Bailey family were well-known at Fox Corner in the first half of the 20th century and up to the 1970's.

  • The Baker family.  Bakersgate is one of the oldest properties in Fox Corner, and the Baker family owned it until the very end of the 18th century.

  • The Slaughter family. The Slaughter family lived at no fewer than 6 different properties in the Fox Corner area from the mid-1800's.  This page is the result of much painstaking research by a direct descendant of the Slaughter family.

  • Charles Peyto Shrubb.  This gentleman owned Merrist Wood in the second half of the 19th century, and bought a great deal of surrounding property, some of which was in the Fox Corner area.  This lively account of Mr Shrubb's life ("A love of life, and a touch of scandal") was written by Steve Cranstone.
